Havaianas Turns Flippin’ Fifty
How many pairs of flip flops do you have in your closet at this moment? I’m going to plead the fifth on this one, Andy Cohen.
Back in the day flippies were sold at the Beach 5 & 10 store (as in 5 and 10 cents, kiddies) and they only came in solid blue, red, green, yellow, orange, black and brown. By the 80s, if you were super stylish you may have been sporting a pair like these, inspired by Mork’s rainbow suspenders…
The first pair of Havaianas was born in Brazil in 1962 and exploded onto US soil and soles circa 2000. I love the brilliant Havaianas colors, and adore their spectacular spectrum of frame-worthy advertisements.
Today Havaianas celebrates a huge feat ~ its 50thanniversary! To mark the occasion, they’ve released a special edition of the original Havaianas flip flop, patented in São Paulo, Brazil in 1962, featuring baby blue straps on two colored soles. All proceeds from the sale will benefit UNICEF.
Why not celebrate by making your own pair? Parabéns & feliz aniversário, Havaianas!
When it comes to color, less is not more it’s just boring.
