Riviera Rays
Grace Kelly playing a socialite vacationing in France. Cary Grant as “Le Chat” – a dapper jewel thief more interested in stealing her heart than her diamonds. The luscious French Riviera as a backdrop. Le sigh…no wonder To Catch A Thief is one of my all-time favorite flicks. With spring taking it’s time to show her pretty face, I thought we could live vicariously through this sunny-chic photo in the meantime…

“Ah, well that’s warm, friendly France for you.”

The Bold & The Beautiful
From the original supermodels (Cindy, Linda, Naomi, and Christy) to Marky Mark and every Calvin Klein and Abercrombie model in between, Bruce Weber has captured the essence of the ideal American with his iconic photos.

Young, fresh-faced and uber-attractive, his typical models are often from an other-wordly or at least highly privileged gene pool.
I remember him most vividly from my Freedom 90 days, but he’s been shooting fashion, models and magazine covers for Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, and Rolling Stone since the 70’s.
So today on his 65th birthday, I thought I’d feature some of his best shots. Enjoy!

“Clink!” to Pink
“Think pink! Think pink when you shop for summer clothes… Think pink! Think pink if you want that quel-que chose… Red is dead, blue is through, green’s obscene, brown’s taboo — and there is not the slightest excuse for plum or puce – or chartreuse. Think pink!” ~Funny Face

I just finished watching Funny Face for the umpteenth time and cannot get Think Pink out of my head! “A picture with class” and “extraordinarily stylish” said the New York Times rave review in 1957. No kidding. A movie that includes the oh-so-chic backdrop of Paris…

Fred Astaire playing a character based on photography superstar Richard Avedon…

Audrey Hepburn as a budding supermodel…

Kay Thompson (creator of the rawther fabulous Eloise) playing Diana Vreeland, editrix of Harper’s Bazaar; and a musical score by the Gershwins…what’s not to love?

Not to mention the color pink. Does it ever really go out of style? Mais non.

The pink baton has been passed on…

Lilly, Tory, Kate, and the girls at Juicy all have pink in their pretty palettes and Pantone has named it color of the year. I think it’s safe to say pink is here to stay…
Pink for bags!
Pink for shoes!

Play in pink!

Drive in pink!

Come alive in pink!

Clink to pink!
Go out dancing, but just remember one thing:

You can get a little wink
If you got a little pink
In your swing!
